Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and promise for the coming year. I have great expectations for this coming semester. We are moving forward as a school. We will be putting a renewed emphasis on the AZMERIT test that students will take in the spring. We prepare for this test with our Galileo benchmarks. It is important that students try to do their best on these benchmarks. Please encourage your students to do well on them and check their scores as they take them. The AZMERIT test is the state test that measure student knowledge of standards in their core classes. It will count as a percentage of the grade in the core class but is not a requirement for graduation.

I have stated this before but I do believe that your students are being taught by some of the most caring and capable teachers in the Gila valley. I hope that every student can appreciate and take advantage of the opportunities that they have before them as they reach for goals that will open up more doors and opportunities for success. I look forward to celebrating their successes with them and you. One way that you can help them obtain that success is to ensure their attendance, because the old saying is true that those who “miss school miss out”. Our attendance as whole is very good, but a few students have failed or lost credit because of poor attendance. Our attendance has dipped toward the end of last semester. Our teachers can be the best there is but they can only help the students that are there on a consistent basis, which is about 98% to 100% of the time.

Again I want to encourage your students to be active. Students that get involved in school related activities are more likely to have academic success as well. We have a variety of clubs like FFA, FBLA, NACC, Skills USA, and Student Council. Even if they get involved simply by supporting events at the school by attending our after-school program Academic Enhancement, or athletic events when accompanied by you. Currently our Boy’s and Girls’ Basketball teams are doing very well. The first State rankings come out January 7th.

Finally positively encourage your students to get it done in the classroom as I said above our teachers have much to offer and your students should not miss out on the opportunities right in front of them. Our Next Open House will be March 4th from 4:30 to 6:30 with a high school athletic meeting following at 6:30 until 7:00 for Spring sports. It is a team effort. We can accomplish so much more with your support at home. Lets do all we can to help our FT. Thomas Apache family be successful!
